M.D.Professor Mehmet BAŞTEMİR


Prof. Mehmet Baştemir, M.D.

He was born in Gaziantep in 1967. He was graduated from School of Medicine (English) of Hacettepe University in 1991. He was awarded the title “Internist” in 1998 in School of Medicine of Ankara University and the title “Endocrinologist and Metabolism Diseases Specialist” in 2001. He worked as Assistant Professor in Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases, School of Medicine, Pamukkale University from 2005 to 2007 and he was the Head of the Division.. He was assigned as Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases in 2009. He voluntarily left his office in School of Medicine, Pamukkale University in 2007. Working as Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Physician at Sani Konukoğlu Hospital in Gaziantep, Prof. Baştemir, M.D., is also lecturer in Health Sciences Faculty of SANKO University since 2014.

Prof. Baştemir, M.D., authored many papers that are published in national and internal peer-review journals. Although his studies primarily focused on thyroid diseases and insulin resistance, he authored papers in other fields of the endocrinology.

Prof. Baştemir, M.D., acted as investigators in three projects titled “Iodine status before iodine prophylaxis in Turkey and sonographic screening of goiter prevalence in primary school children in 20 cities”, “sonographic evaluation of prevalence of goiter, thyroid node and autoimmune thyroidal disease in high school and equivalent school students in East Black Sea Region that is affected by Chernobyl Nuclear Diseases” and “P-glycoprotein polymorphism in patients with hyper- and hypo-thyroidism”. These projects are funded by TUBITAK And Ankara University Research fund. He is member of European Society of Endocrinology and Turkish Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases.
